Avrion is thrilled to be sponsoring and exhibiting at all The Great British Expos (GBE) in 2023, in partnership with Maximizer. One of the contributing factors that helped us choose GBE is our mutual dedication to corporate responsibility as an integral part of how we do business. For GBE, being a responsible company is fundamental to their long-term sustainability, which mirrors our own desire to work the best way we can and support our local charities and community.

"Alec, Julie and I wanted to find companies with the same ethos as GB Expos and it is a true delight to have found Avrion & Maximizer, who were both looking to make a difference. Partnerships like these enable us all to grow our businesses and meet the need of our communities at the same time."

The Great British Expos are committed to creating sustainable value for their customers, employees, and the communities in which they live and work. Working in the areas of the Thames Valley, South West, Midlands, and North West regions of the UK, GBE employs local people, connects customers, companies, and communities. Along with their charitable giving programme, this makes a significant contribution to the local economy and makes an impact within the regional communities.

GB Expos: Each year we donated on average £30,000 to charities
GB Expos: We believe in CSR. We have donated over £150k to charities.

Like Avrion, with its 2022 Great Christmas Giveaway to local charities, The Great British Expos are exceptionally proud of their work with community-based charities including, The Princes Trust, Manchester Children’s Hospital, Sue Ryder Hospice, Midlands Ambulance, People Against Poverty, Swindon 105.5 FM, Sue Ryder, Prostrate Cancer UK, and Inner Flame.

The ethos of their business is giving back, and that is why their regional events are always about business AND community. To date, GBE have raised over £50,000 for various charities. One of the key not-for-profit organisations they are committed to working with is called Cherishers!

Who is Cherishers?

The bridge to getting people back to work, making a huge difference in Social Care in the process!

Cherishers was created to provide job opportunities for people currently unemployed, and who also have barriers to normal employment opportunities. Among their team are members who have various disabilities and restrictions, making it difficult to find a job. By using Cherishers’ services, you are helping to invest in these people and their future.

Cherishers provides domestic and commercial ironing and cleaning services for Rugeley and the surrounding area. With the profits generated from these commercial activities, Cherishers are able to provide free Social Care community services to the elderly and society’s most vulnerable members. The money also pays to run free social events and meet-ups, as well as regularly feed the homeless, lonely, and vulnerable in the area at open events and in the soup kitchen.

Allison from GBE explains that Julie Edensor, a founder of Cherishers, had heard Mary Portas say that “to reach your community, open in your high street”, which is exactly what Cherishers did, and they now have over 20 staff meeting the community and care needs of their local area and further afield. Julie had also heard Theresa May quote how many people called the charity, The Silver Line, due to loneliness and Julie set out to change that in her community. Five years later they are pleased to say Cherishers has done just that. Through Covid they qualified for CQC, and now deliver reduced-cost community care. This is all made possible by the support of The Great British Expos business with a real belief in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Cherishers hopes to extend the model to other areas as its success grows. At present, they have 25 staff and do around 500 hours a week of care at a reduced rate.

How Avrion gives back

Avrion has been focussing on giving back through the Apprenticeship Scheme that helps young people get a step on the employment ladder whilst they learn alongside. The benefits for the apprentice are many. Here are some of the main advantages:

  • Gain hands-on experience
  • Benefit from support systems
  • Get paid to learn
  • Gain industry-recognised qualifications
  • Experience the work environment
  • Improve employability
  • Enjoy student discounts
  • Choice of many programmes.
Apprenticeships

Working with Firebrand, Avrion has seen two apprentices in different roles graduate and take their position in the market place, and we have really enjoyed having them in the team.
